Hi friends, it's been a while since I've posted here. Summer has been crazy and amazing. I've taken a few vacations this summer which has provided some much needed rest and relaxation. Getting back into the regular grind is always hard when you're stuck on island time. Now that I'm getting back to a normal schedule, I've had a lot going on in my head from questions about life to my favorite fashion trends to my bucket list for the rest of summer. So much in fact, that I decided to write my thoughts down and share them with you!
1. What does being brave in your 20s look like?
If you've been following my blog and social media, you'll notice I've mentioned this book quite frequently. I'm currently reading 100 Days to Brave by Annie Downs (she is an author, speaker, and total boss babe). Annie spoke at my church (Crosspoint) in Nashville a while ago, and I ended up buying her book at the end of the service. In the book, she challenges you to discover your bravery (whatever that looks like for you) and to pursue it in everyday life. Annie writes, "Brave people don’t stop hearing the whispers of fear. They hear the whispers and take action anyways." I've started to challenge myself daily to stop listening to the fear that echoes in my head telling me that I'm not good enough and to start taking action towards fulfilling my dreams. I asked in a recent Instagram post "what would you do if you could not fail?" and have been thinking about what I would attempt to accomplish if that were the case. Set fear and failure aside. You can acknowledge that it's there, but don't dare let the fear of failing keep you from playing the game. I'd love to challenge you to do the same. Maybe even pick up the book and read along with me. Let me know if you do!
2. Can I wear hats every day?
Moving on to a more lighthearted subject. Hats have become my favorite accessory this year. I'm finding myself planning outfits around what hat I'm going to wear. Even when my hair is clean I'm wanting to wear a hat (radical I know)! I love a good straw hat for spring and summer, a wide brim fedora for any season, a beret for fall and winter, and a lieutenant cap for any day of the week. Here are a few of my favorite companies to shop for hats: Lack of Color, Brixton, and Free People. Grab one and let's match!
3. What books should I be reading?
I use to read a lot in high school (books were my jam), but since college I've really gotten away from reading — so many textbooks in just four years. Now, I'm trying to get better at taking the time to read at the end of the day. Here are a few books I've been enjoying lately: The Woman in Cabin 10, 100 Days to Brave, Milk and Honey, and You Are a Badass. If you have any good reads I should know about send me a message!
4. What should I add to my summer bucket list?
Despite the amount of fall talk happening on social media, we still have at least another month of summer, and I plan to pack as much fun in as I can. Some of the activities I've been adding to my summer bucket list are: picnic at Arrington Vineyards, visit Natchez Glen to pick some beautiful dahlias, see a Nashville Sounds baseball game, listen to Leon Bridges at Ascend Amphitheater, rent a SUP board on Percy Priest lake, and spend a morning at the Nashville Farmer's Market.
5. Why are all my friends getting engaged? What does that mean for me?
Guys, I think it's a conspiracy! Does anyone else get the feeling that everyone around them is getting engaged these days? No, just me...maybe it's just my age! Well, I don't know where you're at in life, but I'm the weirdo that wants to hold out on the whole marriage thing until my late 20s. I'm still trying to figure out my life, career path, and generally who I want to be as a person. I want to travel and see the world before I settle down (well maybe not the whole thing). Honestly, I'm just not there yet. Whether you're like me or desperately searching for a husband, try to remember that you're where you need to be right now. Your path is going to be different, which is what makes life fun. Enjoy this part of life. Try new things. Make stupid decisions. Travel somewhere by yourself. Fail 100 times. Find a hobby. Whatever it is, stop comparing your journey to someone else's and start living yours.
6. What does it look like to be happy now?
Here's another deep subject I've been working on. I see this phrase all over social media! BE HAPPY NOW. But, what does that even mean? How do we apply that to real life with all the twists and turns it throws our way? I'm still not working my dream job, applying for jobs that I never hear back from, dreaming of apartments I'm too poor to live in, and wishing for things I don't have. There's always going to be challenges in life. There will always be things we want but can't have. There's always going to be people that are doing better than us. That's life! It's difficult, messy, frustrating, and imperfect. Ultimately, I believe being happy now means finding happiness in the imperfections of our lives. Being happy now means actively choosing the positive perspective. Being happy now means fighting through the tough stuff and coming out on top. Being happy now means waking up and pursuing our dreams fearlessly. Being happy now means choosing to be happy no matter what.
7. What TV shows should I watch?
I don't know about you, but I can binge watch a show as good as the next girl. So, here's the DL (that's "down low" for all you youngins) on my favorite shows I'm currently watching: Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Vikings, Sharp Objects, and Queer Eye. Shows that I've watched but would recommend for binging: Friends, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Big Little Lies, Jane the Virgin, The Crown, Peaky Blinders, Parenthood, and Outlander.
8. What summer fashion trends should I know about?
- High waisted bikinis and one piece bathing suits are cool again. Finally, we all can look like Marilyn Monroe and feel confident at the beach.
-Matching sets have made dressing easy and breezy for summer. Not to mention they're perfect to mix and match with other wardrobe staples when packing for vacation.
-Retro cat eye sunglasses are throwing it back yet again to the 1950s. Finally, we can all be as fabulous as Audrey Hepburn.
-Prominent buttons are popping up everywhere on dresses, jumpsuits, and shirts. I'm totally loving this simple detailing.
-The classic style is back, ie. Diane Lane in Under the Tuscan Sun. Mid-length linen dresses, big straw hats, kitten heels, hair scarves, espadrilles, color combinations of white, black, and beige; and high waisted cigarette pants.

9. What am I listening to right now?
MUSIC: What's Going On? by Ni/Co and If You Ain't There by Mignon
PODCASTS: Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher, The Influencer Podcast by Julie Solomon, The Laptop Lifestyle by Alexis Teichmiller, and Creative Beginnings by Nathalie Cram
10. What places should I visit and try in Nashville?
- Flamingos Cocktail Club + Coffee Bar (A new pink-painted swanky bar that'll make you feel like you're in Havana ooh na-na.)
- Bobby Hotel (Nashville's newest boutique hotel located downtown with an awesome rooftop bar and places to dine. There's even a bus on the roof. How did they even get it up there?)
- Geist (A bar and restaurant set in a blacksmith shop in the historic Germantown neighborhood.)
- Nada (The newest Mexican cuisine located in midtown. Bring on the fancy margs!)
- Pearl Diver (Nashville's own tiki bar located in East Nashville. I'll inevitably visit when I'm missing the beach.)
- House of Cards (Not to be confused with the TV show. A magic-themed restaurant that unites both dinner and entertainment.)
- Baked on 8th (Nashville's newest bakery that will make your mouth water and probably give you sugar withdraws.)
